Tapestry Farms is offering a collection of Mother’s Day products that reflect the spirit, creativity, and depth of motherhood: handmade Dubai chocolate and flower arrangements created by refugee neighbors now making homes and a livelihood in the Quad Cities.
Through Tapestry Farms’ social enterprise, these women are finding meaningful employment, stability, and the opportunity to provide for their families. For many women involved, motherhood has been shaped by challenges and incredible resilience — raising children while navigating new languages, new places, new systems, and new beginnings, the nonprofit said in a news release Monday, May 4.
The holiday collection now is available online at tapestryfarms.org. A limited number also will be available for sale Saturday, May 9, at the Freight House Farmers Market in downtown Davenport.
Online orders should be placed early and then can be picked up from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 8, at Tapestry Farms, 121 W. 12th St., Davenport.
The organization launched its holiday gift line last Christmas with items all made or grown by the refugee employees. All proceeds supported Tapestry Farms’ employment and social service programs for refugee families.
For Mother’s Day, Tapestry Farms is using a traditional recipe to make small batches of Dubai chocolate – a product that is trending globally. Each piece layers rich chocolate, pistachio cream, and a tasty crunch, which its creators say is a combination that is both delicious and deeply rooted in cultural tradition.
Dubai chocolate is handmade by refugee team members (the majority of whom are mothers) who bring their own histories, skills, care, and pride to the process, the release said.
Support for refugees
“We love seeing people enjoy our Dubai chocolate and flower bouquets,” Executive Director Ann McGlynn said. “It’s a lot of fun to share the incredible skills and traditions of our team members. We’re grateful to our customers who – with each purchase – support their neighbors who are building news lives in the Quad Cities.”
In addition to boxes of Dubai chocolate, Tapestry Farms is offering flower bouquets in a variety of sizes — perfect for mothers, grandmothers, mentors, partners, best friends, or others being celebrated on Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10.
Tapestry Farms said each purchase supports its broader mission of welcoming and equipping refugee families through employment and comprehensive support services, including housing, healthcare, and education navigation, legal services, employment support, English class, transportation and much, much more.
Founded in 2017 by Ms. McGlynn, Tapestry Farms generously invests in the lives of refugees who resettle in the Quad Cities. With a focus on access, urban farming, and building a welcoming future, Tapestry Farm’s urban farm program reclaims underutilized land in neighborhoods experiencing food insecurity, growing culturally responsive produce so that everyone in the community can be abundantly fed.
