Western Illinois University-Quad Cities, in collaboration with United Way, will host a free tax preparation clinic through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program from 5 to 8 p.m. every Thursday through April 4.

Appointments are required for the clinics, which will be held in room 218 of WIU’s Riverfront Hall, 3300 River Drive, Moline. To schedule an appointment, visit here.

The VITA program provides free income tax return preparation for local taxpayers earning up to $60,000 annually, according to WIU’s news release. WIU students and community volunteers will help prepare basic and current-year tax returns for eligible taxpayers.

If you schedule a VITA tax appointment, please bring these items:

  • Photo ID for you and your spouse.
  • Social Security cards (or copies) for you, your spouse and dependents who you are claiming. An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter may be substituted for you, your spouse and your dependents if you do not have a Social Security card.
  • Birthdates for you, your spouse and dependents.
  • A copy of last year’s federal and state tax returns, or copies of income transcripts from the IRS and state.
  • Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099-INT, 1099-DIV).
  • Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit.

This year’s VITA clinic sponsor is Group O, headquartered in Milan.

“We saw how much of a difference the WIU team made last year in the VITA site at WIU, and we wanted to ensure its continued success,” Group O Corporate Community Liaison Maria Ontiveros said in the release.

“Group O is passionate about providing opportunities like these to people who need it,” she added.
