In another move forward in its national expansion strategy, Davenport-based Von Maur Department Store has announced plans to open its first Von Maur store in North Dakota.
Von Maur said in a news release it plans to open a 90,000-square-foot store at West Acres Mall in Fargo. The new store, which will employ 125 associates, is scheduled to open in spring 2025.
“We look forward to opening the first Von Maur Department Store in North Dakota at such an exceptional location like West Acres Mall,” President Jim von Maur said in last week’s release. “Fargo is a growing, vibrant metropolitan area in the Upper Midwest and we are excited to be a part of the region’s development.”
The new store will represent Von Maur’s second investment at West Acres Mall. In 2018, it opened its popular Dry Goods store, which caters to a youthful clientele with its women’s apparel and accessories. The company said the success of its Dry Goods store there provided the additional confidence to continue investing in the area.
“We look forward to introducing area shoppers to our wide selection of brand name merchandise and signature Von Maur service and becoming the shopping destination of choice for years to come,” Mr. von Maur added.
Known for its outstanding selection of brand name and specialty apparel, shoes, accessories and gifts, the new Fargo store also will feature products from leading brands such as Bobbi Brown, Peter Millar, TravisMathew, Hammitt, Lilly Pulitzer and Kendra Scott, among many others.
The latest expansion plans come on the heels of a new Von Maur store opening last November at Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines. Last August, the company also announced plans to enter the Pennsylvania market in 2024.
Von Maur, founded in 1872 in downtown Davenport, has its corporate headquarters as well as a 120,000-square-foot E-commerce facility in north Davenport. The company currently operates 37 stores in 15 states, including two Quad Cities stores at NorthPark Mall, Davenport, and SouthPark Mall, Moline.
The new Von Maur store will be an anchor store at West Acres, Fargo’s long-established retail and entertainment hub. The store will feature the company’s signature residential ambiance, original artwork, an open floor plan and music from the store’s grand piano.
West Acres, a shopping destination since 1972, is home to more than 100 stores and restaurants as well as the largest exhibit of local art in the region.
According to Von Maur, the majority of the 125 new jobs the store will create will be full-time. The company offers above-market wages, excellent benefits and a positive, professional work environment.
