Von Maur again named America’s Best Department Store

Von Maur Department Store, headquartered in Davenport where its roots began, has once again been recognized as America’s Best Department Store by Newsweek.

This marks the third straight year the family-owned Von Maur has earned the top department store spot in Newsweek’s annual ranking of America’s best retailers, the company announced in a news release.

“We are honored to be recognized by Newsweek as America’s best department store for the third straight year, something that is only possible because of our associates, customers and brand partners,” Jim von Maur, the president of Von Maur Department Stores, said in the release.

“Von Maur’s exceptional service and professional team, along with our trending styles and quality merchandise, set us apart in today’s competitive retail landscape,” he added. “Our simple yet effective philosophy of ‘take care of our customers and the rest will come’ has been the true key to our success over the last 152 years and will be for years to come.”

The department store chain, which includes stores in Davenport and Moline, celebrated its 150th year in 2022.

Founded in 1872 in downtown Davenport, Von Maur today operates 37 department stores in 15 states along with a 120,000-square-foot E-Commerce facility in north Davenport that serves its growing online business at www.vonmaur.com.

Continuing the retailer’s national growth strategy, Von Maur will open its first store in Pennsylvania this fall at South Hills Village in Pittsburgh followed by its first store in North Dakota at Fargo’s West Acres Mall in the spring of 2025.

In addition to its two new planned locations, Von Maur is in the midst of an extensive, multi-phased, $100 million renovation of its stores over the next five years.

America’s Best Retailers 2024 were identified based on the results of an independent survey of more than 7,000 U.S. customers who have shopped at the retail stores in person in the past three years.

Final rankings were based on the likelihood of recommendation and the following five evaluation criteria: products, customer service, atmosphere, accessibility and store layout. Survey and published rankings were conducted by Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider.
