An open house will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery on Arsenal Island from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, June 26.
The event will include historic walking tours of the cemetery, discussion on veteran benefits and pre-need eligibility, military honors and committal service information. Visitors also can tour a casket (crypt) section, columbarium, in-ground cremation area, and cemetery equipment. (Go here to see more on the event.)
Open House guests also can visit the administration building to find out information on veterans’ benefits and the Pre-Need Burial Eligibility program to encourage veterans and their spouses to plan in advance to use VA burial benefits.
Also, visitors can stop by Committal Shelter 2 for military honors and information on a Committal Service. Drive over to Section 7 and see the casket crypt burial section and equipment used at the cemetery, as well as Section 4 of the Columbarium wall for information on in-ground or above ground cremation burial options.Â
The Friends of Rock Island National Cemetery and Bi-County Memorial Day Association (both volunteer groups) will have materials available at the cemetery detailing how they support the cemetery as well.
