Brave volunteers will soon take to the rooftop of Hotel Blackhawk and rappel down the Davenport building for the Over The Edge fundraiser to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley (BBBSMV).

Quad Cities supporters have been busy raising money to earn their spot to rappel down 11 stories and 140 feet from the downtown hotel, located at 200 E. Third St.

Over The Edge, the BBBSMV’s largest annual fundraiser, will begin with sponsors and VIPs from 3:30 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26. The two-day event wraps up on Saturday, Aug. 27, when volunteers will go over the edge between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

In all, 98 volunteers will rappel the 140-foot-tall hotel. The event is held in the north parking lot of Hotel Blackhawk.

To participate as an Edger, individuals must set a minimum fundraising goal of $1,000; Daring Duos have a minimum target fundraising goal of $1,750; and Fearless Teams (three or more people) must raise a minimum of $2,500 for the first three edgers, and $750 for each additional edger.

Registration includes a $100 deposit that is applied to the minimum fundraising goal.

This 2023 event marks the sixth year for the unique fundraiser and it is presented by Active Endeavors and Bank of America. The event day sponsor is Estes Construction. The hotel sponsor is Hotel Blackhawk.

OVER THE EDGE Global is an international company that provides the expertise and equipment to run these events for non-profits in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
