New Clinton Career Advancement Center to host grand opening

CLINTON, Iowa – Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) will celebrate the completion of the new Clinton Career Advancement Center with a grand opening Monday, Oct. 24.

The community is invited from 4-7 p.m. to the center, located across the street from the main Clinton Community College (CCC) campus. The event will include tours of the facilities, remarks by stakeholders, and a chance to meet with the center’s instructors. Light refreshments and appetizers will be served. Parking will be available onsite at 1210 11th Ave. S.

The new 26,700-square-foot facility supports career and technical education training with multi-purpose laboratories, classrooms, faculty offices and a large, common area.

The Clinton Career Advancement Center is among a number of ongoing capital projects across EICC aimed at offering job training. EICC celebrated a groundbreaking earlier this month on a new DeWitt Career Advancement Center

The Clinton center will offer these programs: Agriculture, Automotive Technology, Construction Technology, Culinary, Engineering Technology, Education, Healthcare, Information Technology and Welding Technology.

The facility also will serve area high schools through the college’s Career Academies. Career academies provide high school juniors and seniors with the opportunity to explore desired career paths and receive college-level credits at no-cost, all while saving valuable time and tuition.

According to Clinton Community College (CCC), 65% of the jobs available in the Clinton area require education beyond high school. The college is confident that the new center will serve that skill gap.

“The Clinton Career Advancement Center will provide a platform for members of our community to become trained in the jobs that exist today,” CCC President Brian Kelly said in a news release. “This state-of-the-art facility is the realization of educators, industry, and community. We are excited to be bringing the latest technology and labs to help students pursue high-demand careers.”

The construction team included Studio 483 Architects, Rock Island, and Estes Construction, Davenport.

Funding for the center was made possible thanks to strong support of district voters, who approved a $40-million bond referendum in March of 2021 with more than 70% of the vote.
