Marathon will slow, detour traffic Sunday 

Travelers should be on the lookout for road closures, delays and detours as the TBK Bank Quad Cities Marathon hits the streets Sunday, Sept. 24.  CREDIT QUAD CITIES MARATHON

Travelers should be on the lookout for road closures, delays and detours as the TBK Bank Quad Cities Marathon hits the streets Sunday, Sept. 24. 

The annual marathon will take place across four cities including Bettendorf and Moline. Travel will be impacted by various road closures along the course during the event and pre-event activities. 

Among the traffic changes are: 

In Moline 

  • River Drive will be closed from 12th Street to 15th Street from Friday evening until Sunday evening.  
  • River Drive will be closed from 15th Street to 34th Street from approximately 6:30 a.m. Sunday until 9:30 am.
  • 41st Street to 55th Street will be closed to westbound traffic from 6:30-9:30 a.m.

In Bettendorf

  • From 7-10:30 a.m., several roads will be closed once racers cross the Interstate 74 Bridge from Illinois to Iowa via the new bike and pedestrian path. Runners then travel east on State Street until they reach the intersection of 17th Street/George Thuenen Bridge. 
  • Participants not involved in the full marathon turn south and cross the George Thuenen Bridge to access the Mississippi River Trail and head toward Davenport. 
  • Full marathon runners will take the following route: north on 17th Street to Mississippi Boulevard; west on Mississippi Boulevard to Kimberly Road; north on Kimberly Road to Lincoln Road; east on Lincoln Road to 14th Street; south on 14th Street to Alcoa Avenue, then back North on 14th Street to Lincoln Road; east on Lincoln Road to 23rd Street; south on 23rd Street to Central Avenue; west on Central Avenue to 18th Street; south on 18th Street to Mississippi Boulevard; south on 17th Street to George Thuenen Bridge; and cross the bridge to Mississippi River Trail, and head toward Davenport.

Bettendorf police and event volunteers will be on hand to direct cars through as quickly as possible.

In Davenport 

Access to the Freight House Farmers Market on Sunday will be off of Ripley Street. In addition, the American Serenade will be docked at River Heritage Park and parking there will not be available to marathon spectators.
