LULAC Fiesta Night is at the Putnam Sept. 9

LULAC Fiesta Night Putnam

The Putnam Museum will host this year’s LULAC Fiesta Night from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The evening — at 1717 W. 12th St., Davenport — will feature cultural fun for all to enjoy, including mariachi music, food catered by Restaurante El Mariachi and performances by Quad City Ballet Folklorico, Mariachi Los Aguilares and Crooked Cactus Band.

“As we prepare to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in the QC, LULAC is proud to share our rich cultural heritage with the QC community,” said Michael Reyes, parliamentarian of LULAC, in a news release.

“Over the years, our annual fiesta has helped raise funds for our scholarship program. As we continue our collaboration with the Putnam Museum, we would like to invite the QC community to this year’s Fiesta.”

The fiesta will begin at 5 p.m. with a social hour and music from Mariachi Los Aguilares. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the program and performances. The Putnam Museum also will bring out some Day of the Dead Skulls from the collection and display them throughout the day.

Tickets are $20 per person at the door and include dinner and performances. Proceeds will benefit LULAC’s scholarship fund, which helps students attend college.

Earlier in the day, the Putnam will celebrate Monarchs & Mariachi with activities and events

included in museum admission, which is $12 for adults; $10 for college students with ID and kids and teens ages 3-18; $8 for seniors over 60 and military members with ID; kids ages 2 and younger are admitted for free; $1 for households with an EBT card and ID through Museums for All, and members are free.

Monarchs & Mariachi will celebrate the migration of monarch butterflies. At 2 p.m., there will be drop-in butterfly crafts, a photo booth and a special tour of the Putnam’s new regional history exhibit, “Common Ground: Our Voice, Our Stories,” which will focus on the Latino influence in the Quad Cities.

At 3 p.m., “Flight of the Butterflies 3D” will be shown in the GIANT Screen Theater. Show tickets are $9 for adults; $8 for youth ages 3-18, seniors over 60, college students, military members with ID and museum members; free for ages 2 and under.

Mariachi Los Aguilares also will play mariachi music throughout the museum from 4 to 4:45 p.m.
