The Putnam Museum will add a monthly event called History on Tap designed to serve up a variety of educational topics along with a cold brew or other favorite beverages, the Davenport museum recently announced.

The adult learning event – subtitled “Where Education Meets Libation” – will take place every third Thursday, beginning on Sept. 21. History on Tap will feature talks on a variety of topics along with drinks and what the museum calls  “a stunning view of the Mississippi river valley.”

The Putnam Museum said in a news release that the monthly lecture series is designed for those who are tired “of the same old lectures in stuffy lecture halls” and “crave a more engaging and refreshing approach to lifelong learning.”

Guest speakers are expected to address topics from ancient civilizations to modern innovations. Also being served will be Quad Cities historical topics that tie into the museum’s recently renovated regional history exhibit, Common Ground: Our Voice, Our Stories. Regional topics include QC sports history, QC haunted history, Bucktown, Chief Black Hawk and more.

The inaugural Sept. 21 installment will feature Onnica Marquez, archivist and assistant professor at St. Ambrose University, Davenport.

She will take attendees on a journey through Egypt, a land where history and adventure intertwine. From the ancient wonders of Alexandria to the majestic  temples of Abu Simbel, and even to the summit of Mt. Sinai, Ms. Marquez has experienced it all firsthand, the Putnam said.

She will share her personal stories, insights, and discoveries from her time in Egypt.

“Whether you are a history enthusiast, an adventure seeker, or simply curious about Egypt, this is an opportunity you do not want to miss. Join us as we delve into the mysteries of Egypt and uncover its  hidden treasures,” the release said. “Get ready to be inspired, informed, and entertained as Onnica Marquez reveals the wonders of this remarkable country. “

History on Tap is a free event that takes place on the Putnam Museum’s Larder Balcony, on the second  floor behind the GIANT Screen Theater and overlooking the Mississippi River valley. Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. with a cash bar and light snacks, and the talk is set for 7 p.m.
