Get prepared – Emergency Resource Fair is Saturday

 Do you know what to do if a disaster hits your family? A family-friendly event focused on educating Quad Citians on how to be ready for an emergency or disaster could give you the answers.

The second annual Be Ready QC Emergency Resource Fair will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Quad-Cities Waterfront Convention Center in downtown Bettendorf. Admission is free. 

“The goal of this event is to make the Quad Cities community more educated and prepared for emergencies,” according to information posted on the event’s  Facebook page.

The resource fair will feature workshops, hands-on training and other activities to help prepare people for emergencies. Event participants will include local first responders, emergency management agencies and others.

There will be educational booths and activities provided by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Scott County and Rock Island County Emergency Management Agencies, Eldridge Police, Safe Families, Medical Reserve Corps, Scott County Emergency Communications Center, American Red Cross, National Weather Service, Alert Iowa, QC Ready, Quad Cities HEARTSafe Coalition and more.

The event also will include training, such as fire extinguisher use, hands-only CPR and Stop the Bleed training. Some of the demonstrations and tours will include a virtual reality police simulator, bomb squad and a fire truck tour.

The resource fair also will include prize package give-aways. Among the prizes are a winter car care kit (valued at $175), a “Ready Lights Out” kit with flashlights, a first-aid kit and more (valued at $130), a fire extinguisher and weather radio.
