The Rotary Club of Bettendorf distributed a record number of grants to a record number of charities today, Jan. 10, at a celebratory meeting at the Waterfront Convention Center in downtown Bettendorf.

The more than $80,000 raised by the club throughout the year, primarily from its annual LobsterFest event, will be used in part to support nonprofit organizations that provide basic human services, serve youth or meet local community needs, a Bettendorf Rotary news release said. The $80,000 awarded today represents the largest amount distributed to the largest number of organizations in a single year during the Bettendorf Rotary’s annual giving campaign, the club said.

“We are so pleased to be able to assist these very deserving charities that do so much good for our community and make the Quad Cities a better place for everyone,” Bettendorf Rotary President Joe Campion added.

The Bettendorf Rotary Grants Committee reviewed 75 applications seeking $189,092 which were submitted for consideration.

“We would like to thank all the organizations who submitted grant applications this year. There are many great causes doing important work. We wish we could fund them all,” said Charities Committee Chair Carol Foster.

The Charities Committee voted to fund 32 of the grant requests for a total of $80,378, or 43% of the total amount requested.

“Congratulations to the following organizations for receiving a grant this year,” Bettendorf Rotary Club said. “We applaud your valuable work to make this community a better place to live.”
