
Delta Dental of Iowa announced that April Schmaltz has been named the new president and CEO after a national search that produced a strong pool of candidates.
The company announced the appointment in a news release Monday, Jan. 8. Ms. Schmaltz most recently had been Delta Dental’s interim Co-CEO and senior vice president of sales and marketing.
“We are pleased to welcome April as president and CEO,” Rowena Crosbie, Delta Dental of Iowa Board Chair, said in the release. “April’s strong track record of providing strategic leadership, along with her experience in the health care and financial services industries made her the unanimous choice of the board.”
“Her background provides a unique perspective of understanding the needs of members, providers, brokers and employers,” Ms. Crosbie said. “She brings the passion and expertise to lead Delta Dental as it continues to grow its core dental and vision business, expand its product offerings, and fulfill its mission to support the health and wellness of our communities.”

She has been with the company since 2014 leading sales, marketing and product development. With more than 25 years of experience in executive leadership, strategy, and new business growth, Ms. Schmaltz has held a variety of executive leadership roles in the health care and financial services industries.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from St. Mary’s University, San Antonio, Texas, and a Master of Business Administration from Iowa State University, Ames. In addition, she serves on numerous professional and community boards and councils including Healthiest State Initiative, EveryStep and the Global Insurance Accelerator.
