SABULA, Iowa – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will hold an open house Tuesday, May 20, to update the public on the planned ecosystem restoration project for the Sabula Lakes area of the Mississippi River.
The event is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Izaak Walton League, 60190 U.S. Highway 52.
Located in Pool 13 of the Mississippi River, the Sabula Lakes have experienced significant habitat degradation, leading to reduced aquatic diversity and shallow water. The project, part of the Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program, aims to revitalize the lakes by improving water quality and creating more diverse habitats crucial for species that depend on the river.
Subject matter experts will provide an overview of potential project features during the open house. Afterwards, representatives will be available to answer questions and gather community feedback.
