Ms. Lewis was one of dozens of home repair and contracting business representatives on hand at the fall show, held at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds on the west end of Davenport. The Friday through Sunday, Nov. 1.-3 show was presented by the Nationwide Expos organization. At least 40 exhibitors were scheduled to be there, showcasing a wide variety of services, according to Nationwide.“Success is ensuring all our attendees leave with a grin on their faces, knowing they are saving thousands of dollars on all their home improvement projects. … Our goal is to invite and give the whole town a chance to save and gather ideas in all things home,” according to the Nationwide Expos website. One of those looking at “all things home” on Saturday was Tony Saladino of Long Grove, Iowa. On Saturday morning, Nov. 2, the area man was busy talking about home projects at the Backyard Vinyl Co. table at the home show. That company, based in Maquoketa, Iowa, does fences, railings, gazebos and pergolas. The Long Grove man was interested in their work on backyard decks.“We’re looking for a new deck, and looking for some ideas to maybe redo our bathroom in the spring,” said Mr. Saladino.
Vendors ‘keeping busy’
Zach Kuster, company representative with Backyard Vinyl on Saturday, said he was happy with the fall show and the business that it helped generate for the Maquoketa company.“I’ve been keeping busy today. People are asking about decks and many other things,” he added. Not too far from the Backyard Vinyl table, Theresa Rosenbach was representing Bath Planet. That company, which specializes in redoing bathrooms. It was also having a good day at the Davenport Fall Show she said. Ms. Rosenbach was kept busy telling visitors about walk-in tubs and other features to make a bathroom more accessible and safer for elderly people.“The promoters have done a nice job of getting people here. … There’s a lot of nice people here today. People have been looking for safety features for the bathroom,” she added.Bathrooms were the center of attention at another display area. Drake Sanchez of Davenport was fielding questions at the Kohler walk-in bathroom display. That display was actually a white trailer that showcased a mockup of a new bathroom. “Bathrooms are things a lot of people don’t know about. So, they come here looking for ideas and opinions,” he said.In addition to bathrooms, the fall show featured companies looking to do flooring work. One of them was TSR Concrete Coatings of Rock Island. It advertises one-day new floors for garages, patios, porches, utility rooms and many other places.“People are here asking about garage and patio floors. … We’re at this show to answer those questions and set up appointments,” said Owen Bennett, a design consultant with TSR.
