WQPT PBS is hosting its 2024 Imagination Station for kids on Saturday, Oct. 19, and tickets are still available, the public television station said in a news release.
“We are looking forward to sharing Imagination Station with our community again this year,” Melissa Gravert, director of educational outreach at WQPT PBS, said. The free family-friendly event takes place on the campus of Western Illinois University-Quad Cities in Moline.
While the event is free, each person attending still must have a ticket, the release said. WQPT also requests that families only register once so that every family has the opportunity to attend. Tickets are available at wqpt.org/imaginationstation.org.
A total of 4,000 tickets will be distributed for either the morning (9-11 a.m.) or afternoon (noon-2:30 p.m.) sessions.
PBS characters attending will include: Alma from Alma’s Way, Curious George, Daniel Tiger, Katrina Kitty, Nature Cat, Xavier Riddle, Molly of Denali, Elinor from Elinor Wonders Why, Stu from Lyla in the Loop and Zadie from Work it Out Wombats.
Attendees get free book
In addition to meeting their favorite PBS friends, kids can read with the QCCAN Therapy Dogs and join Alina and Hamlet Being Bilingual Rocks! to get creative with art, music, and dance. They also can explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) with the QC Botanical Center’s Plant Discovery Bus and the University of Illinois Extension, Rock Island County 4-H.
Each PBS character will have its own station with fun activities, games and resources to take home. All are designed to reinforce the learning concepts of their specific program. Attendees also will receive a free book from the WQPT PBS First Book program.
Character Sponsors are: Tyson Foods, Arconic and Modern Woodmen of America. Other sponsors include: Crawford Company, Rock Island County Federation of Women’s Club, United Way Quad Cities, Davenport Kiwanis Club and Kiwanis Club of East Moline-Silvis.
