“We are proud of all our MercyOne nursing honorees. Their countless contributions and dedication to our patients and our communities are exemplary,” Tracy Larson, MercyOne’s chief nursing officer, said in a news release Friday, March 6. “This recognition validates our mission to provide excellent personalized care. We appreciate the Great Iowa Nurses for this recognition.”

The program annually honors Iowa nurses for their contributions to the nursing profession. A committee of individuals from various health care organizations across Iowa reviews nominations for the honor. Great Iowa Nurses are chosen based on demonstrated service to patients, leadership, mentoring, or serving as a role model.

In addition to the nurse recognition, the Great Iowa Nurses program provides financial support to nursing students in MSN, DNP, or Ph.D. programs. The Great Iowa Nurses program asks patients, co-workers, friends and family members to nominate outstanding nurses each year. After a two-part review process, the winners are honored at an annual ceremony.
Headquartered in central Iowa, MercyOne is a member of Trinity Health (based in Livonia, Michigan) – one of the largest not-for-profit Catholic health care systems in the nation.
About Great Iowa Nurses
Established in 2004, 100 Great Iowa Nurses was hosted by the University of Iowa until 2020. In 2022, with the support of Mary Greeley Medical Center, the program – now called Great Iowa Nurses – returned to recognize Iowa nurses that routinely go above and beyond every day and take that extra step to ensure safe, compassionate care for their patients.
