WALCOTT, Iowa – The Walcott Commons & Coliseum Event Center at 1116 E. Bryant St. in this community will host a public grand opening ceremony starting at 6 p.m. Friday, June 12.
The event will include music by the band Lynn Allen, food trucks and drinks.
The celebration marks the opening of a renovated building that has a lot of history in Walcott. The new owners – Feisha Downs-Lacher and her husband Bret Lacher – have renovated the former Coliseum building. The new facility is a meeting place for graduation parties and many other events, plus it serves breakfast, lunch and coffee.
The Coliseum has its roots dating back to the 1890s in Walcott. It has evolved from a traditional German-American dance hall into a modern multi-purpose community hub.
The area couple have outlined the latest chapter for the building, and the renovation progress made on the structure since April.
“We are beyond excited (and incredibly blessed) to announce that we are officially the new owners of The Walcott Commons — also known as The Coliseum. This is more than just a building — it’s the start of something big. We’re bringing new life, new energy, and a space our community has truly been needing. Our vision? A place where people come together. … We’re pouring our hearts into this, and we can’t wait to open the doors and welcome you in,” the owners posted on Facebook in April.
Recently, the owners announced they are hiring staff for the new facility. They are looking for baristas, wait staff, a cook and bartenders. People interested in the jobs are asked to call Feisha Downs-Lacher at (563) 676-9592.
On Friday, June 5, the new owners posted that the new business sign had been placed on the building. “Walcott Commons has officially made its mark, and we are LOVING how it’s coming together. Every day brings something new, and this one is definitely exciting.” according to the post.
