  • Recycle the Runway Dress: Elements of Style for Success Quad Cities

Dedicated fashionistas, and those looking for a fun, fashionable night out are urged to attend Dress for Success Quad Cities Recycle the Runway: Elements of Fashion show on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

In addition to supporting that women’s empowerment organization through its biggest annual fundraiser, the night also features the work of 17 talented designers who will turn recycled materials into runway-ready looks.

Tickets are $75 and can be purchased here. The night kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at the Stern Center, 1713 3rd Ave, Rock Island. Each ticket includes a high-energy runway fashion show, live entertainment and emcee, access to silent auction, dinner and dessert.

Attendees this year also will be treated to:

    • A glimpse into the design process. Beyond the final reveal, they’ll hear directly from the designers about their inspiration and the creative journey behind their unique creations.
    • Live entertainment and an emcee.
    • Cocktails and Networking: Mingle with fellow supporters and enjoy a vibrant atmosphere before the main event.
    • A chance to support Dress for Success which receives 100% of the night’s proceeds. Those dollars directly benefit the women in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois that it serves through free job-search assistance, workshops, career coaching, and professional attire.

    Cheer on your favorites

Attendees also are urged to cheer on their favorite designers in this tough but friendly competition as they compete for a cause as well as three cash prizes. The designers have created runway-ready ensembles crafted from bags of recycled clothing and accessories.

Before the designers are chosen, Dress for Success volunteers fill bags full of items such as clothing, shoes, accessories, and more. Once the contestants are selected, each one must come and pick out a bag with no idea what is inside.

The designers then have 12 weeks to craft a runway-ready outfit from whatever they find in the bag. They can add things like zippers, buttons, tulle, etc., but at least 65% of their final design must come from the bag. Designs are judged on craftsmanship, quality, creativity, overall head-to-toe presentation, and stage presence.

More importantly, organizers say, Recycle the Runway is “a night of innovation, empowerment, and fun, all while making a tangible difference in the lives of women in our community! Your ticket isn’t just for an event; it’s an investment in confidence, opportunity, and a brighter future for countless individuals.”
