Area residents can give their views on reshaping Moline’s riverfront during a “Take Me to the River” workshop from 2:45 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Mercado on Fifth at 423 12 St., Moline.

The event will give residents a chance to see and comment on the current proposed Moline Front + Center Plans. A similar workshop was held on Feb. 10.

During that event, more than 100 people reviewed and gave their opinions on an updated riverfront plan — led by the City of Moline, Renew Moline and a multidisciplinary planning team MKSK Studios  — that aims to create a compelling vision and implementation plan for a re-imagined Moline riverfront, according to the city.

The February meeting, which was called “Love the River,” largely focused on MKSK officials presenting three finalist plans for the Moline riverfront, and getting feedback from residents. The three finalist plans presented at Mercado on Fifth in February included:

  • Plan 1: “Native and Naturalistic.” Features of this plan include trails, floating boardwalks, natural systems, nature-inspired activities and natural systems.
  • Plan 2:  “Seasonal Playground.” Features include recreation activities, sports, health and wellness, movement and seasonal activities, such as play zones and a skating rink.
  • Plan 3: “Food and Farm.” Some features include ag heritage events, manufacturing history, connection to the land and community events.

Updated plans on display

Some three months later, the project team is now ready to share its refined vision for the riverfront.

In addition to getting a chance to review the updated plans for the river, the Saturday event will include family-friendly activities and attractions, including free animal balloons, community chalk drawing, and local sweet treats and refreshments. Free parking will be available to the north of the building.

The project team is ready to share the refined vision for feedback and to celebrate the community’s hard work. See how the community informed the district and how it will impact the future of Moline’s riverfront! The project team will give a presentation — covering work completed to date, what we heard, and how we refined the vision into a design for the district,” according to information from the city.
