We Work the Waterways, a national education outreach program, will host a Maritime Interaction Day for about 216 Quad Cities high school seniors on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Scott Community College in Riverdale.
The event, held in partnership with the Upper Mississippi Waterways Association and other maritime stakeholders, aims to provide an immersive experience with the maritime, shipping, and logistics industries. Students will gain insights into career paths, participate in hands-on activities like knot tying and man-overboard drills, and network with industry professionals. This marks the first time We Work the Waterways has brought this event to the Quad Cities.
“Our Maritime Interaction Day Programs are a collaborative effort between maritime, shipping, and logistics professionals at all levels, schools, local governments, and businesses to reach thousands of students annually and equip them with resources for their future professional development while fostering lasting connections,” said Errin Howard, executive director of We Work the Waterways.
Participating maritime industry partners include Upper Mississippi Fleeting, Riverview Boat & Tug Services, Riverboat Twilight, Lawson Rigging & Fabrication, Clark Boat Company, United States Coast Guard, Scott Community College, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Rock Island District’s Mississippi River Project, Upper Mississippi Waterways Association, and J.F. Brennan Co., Inc.
