Wanted: Workers for Clinton Tailgate N’ Tallboys fest

CLINTON, Iowa – A country music festival scheduled to take place here next month is looking for workers.

The Tailgate N’ Tallboys concert will be Thursday-Saturday, June 8-10 on the Clinton Riverfront, 101 S. First St. Some of the country music acts scheduled to perform include: Tim McGraw, Jelly Roll, Mitchell Tenpenny, Lainey Wilson, Jake Owen, Chase Rice and others.

The music festival could bring up to 15,000 people to Clinton.

Dealing with that crowd will take many volunteers and employees. In the past months, the city has been looking for volunteers to help with the many jobs surrounding the music fest. On May 12,  temporary jobs were posted through the Sedona Staffing service. The job posting is for gate attendants and “trash engineers” ( people needed to pick up trash after the music shows at night). The pay is set at $14 to $15 an hour and there will be first-, second- and third-shift hours available. Bottled water and sub sandwiches will be available for workers. Employees will also be given an event t-shirt.

Some of the qualifications for trash engineers include:

  • 16- and 17-year-olds can work the evening shift.
  • 18 and older workers required for overnight shifts.
  • Must be able to bend/stoop/turn and twist.
  • Must be able to do repetitive tasks.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds if needed.
  • Dress appropriately for outside work.

Clinton Mayor Scott Maddasion told the QCBJ that he’s not sure how many workers the event organizers are looking for. The cost of employing the workers is being split between the city and the concert promoters, USA Concerts.

“This was built into the original budget that was put together when we started the festival,” the Mr. Maddasion said.

Last month, the mayor hosted a meeting in Clinton to review some of the planning for the music festival. During that meeting, he said the festival may attract 10,000 to 15,000 people to Clinton. Officials believe it will have about a $6 million direct economic impact on the community. The mayor told the crowd at the meeting that judging from ticket sales, most people attending the concert live in a 30-mile radius of Clinton.

However, there also are ticket sales being made to country fans from as far away as Texas, New Jersey, Kansas, Nebraska and other states.
