Abigail Burger is looking forward to a career as a medical lab scientist.The 21-year-old is currently a junior at St. Ambrose University, Davenport. She hopes to take advantage of a partnership between St. Ambrose and Trinity College of Nursing & Health Sciences in Rock Island to complete her medical education at Trinity.“I wanted to stop by here and see the facilities. I like what I see,” Ms. Burger said during an open house Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Trinity College’s campus at 2122 25th Ave.Abigail Burger, a student at St. Ambrose University, is looking forward to continuing her education at Trinity College. CREDIT DAVE THOMPSONShe was among dozens of prospective students who toured the Trinity College facilities to learn more about the educational opportunities at the school.Trinity College is currently accepting applications for the following degree programs: associate of applied science in radiography, bachelor of science in nursing, bachelor of science in health sciences, and master of science in nursing. CREDIT DAVE THOMPSON“We want to show that we have a pathway (for the students),” she added.One of those students looking for that pathway is Lisa Plett, a student at Muscatine Community College, studying radiology/diagnostic medical imaging.“I’m interested in radiology. I’m looking over some of the classes they offer. They look good,” Ms. Plett said during Tuesday's open house.Trinity College also used the open house to show the U.S. needs people in the medical fields, and the salaries in those fields. Information from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics displayed at the event included:
Pay for medical jobs: registered nurse – $77,600; radiology technologist – $61,980; medical laboratory science – $57,800.
Median age statistics for the jobs: registered nurse, 52 years old; radiology technologist, 43;and medical laboratory science, 55.
