Standberry named Western’s HR executive director

Western Illinois University has named Cassandra Standberry as its executive director of human resources and Title IX coordinator. 

“I have more than 24 years of experience in the human resources field,” Ms. Standberry said in a news release from WIU. “My areas of expertise lie in talent acquisition, classification and compensation, performance management, employee relations, Title IX, ADA and employee recognition.” 

Ms. Standberry earned a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Phoenix. Prior to joining WIU, she worked in various positions for the Commonwealth of Virginia State government sector agencies, including the Virginia Departments of Treasury, Juvenile Justice and Professional and Occupational Regulations. Most recently, she also served as the director of human resources for Richard Bland College of William and Mary from 2019 to 2023. 

In her role at WIU, Ms. Standberry will be responsible for all talent acquisition and development, oversee benefits and labor relations, promote a highly diverse and high-functioning workforce, coordinate development and assimilation of human resource policies and procedures, and identify trends and innovations in all aspects of human resources. She will serve as the subject matter expert for WIU for all-things human resources, the release states. 

WIU’s office of human resources’ mission is to develop, implement and support programs and processes that add value to the university and its employees, leading to improved employee satisfaction, growth and retention while being committed to empowering students, faculty and staff to lead dynamic and diverse organizations and communities, the release states. 

“While at Western, I look forward to working with key stakeholders to develop strategies to recruit and retain top talent, increase employee engagement and professional development opportunities,” Ms. Standberry said.
