Shive-Hattery is expanding its footprint in the nation’s Southwest with its recent acquisition of Montgomery Roth Architecture & Interior Design, headquartered in Houston, Texas, the Iowa-based Shive-Hattery announced Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Shive Hattery, headquartered in Cedar Rapids with operations including Bettendorf, said in a news release that Montgomery Roth’s acquisition brings new expertise in the gaming and hospitality, and multi-family housing markets. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The latest expansion marks the third design office in the Southwestern region for Shive-Hattery. It expanded into Tucson, Arizona, in 2022 and in Tempe, Arizona, in 2023. Montgomery Roth has a total of 14 employees.
According to Shive-Hattery, the addition will complement its existing portfolio of regional and nationwide commercial clients. In addition, clients will benefit from their combined expertise, resources and ability to deliver more comprehensive and customized design solutions.
“Shive-Hattery and Montgomery Roth share a strong cultural alignment, with both placing the highest priority on investing in our people,” Shive-Hattery President and CEO Jennifer Bennett said in the release. “As a learning organization, we know that these investments yield lasting returns that are seen in the influence we have, the innovations we create, and the culture we build together.”
Delivering for clients
Speaking to the firm’s new capabilities in gaming and hospitality, Shive-Hattery Gaming & Hospitality Market Leader W. Peter Maruska said “Our enhanced capabilities will help us deliver a level of service that not only meets, but exceeds our clients’ expectations.”
In the release, Shive-Hattery said that Montgomery Roth Architecture & Interior Design will operate as Montgomery Roth, a Division of Shive-Hattery. John Montgomery and Lisa Roth will continue as the principals of the Houston office.
