SCRA funds renovations at Camp Liberty

Renovation work is in progress at the Outpost cabin at Camp Liberty near North Liberty, Iowa.

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa – A Girls Scouts camp near here is getting a new look, thanks to a $20,000 gift from the Scott County Regional Authority (SCRA).

The SCRA made the gift to support renovations at Camp Liberty, a 245-acre camp that hosts summer programs for Girls Scouts.

The renovation of the Outpost cabin at Camp Liberty will ensure barrier-free access with smooth paths that can accommodate wheelchairs. Other features will be a raised fire ring, ramps, and an accessible picnic table that ensures all guests feel welcome.

“Exposure to the outdoors is more vital than ever,” said Diane Nelson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. “By making the cabins more accessible, we’re giving every girl an opportunity to grow her courage, confidence, and character.”

Girl Scout summer camp is a unique space where girls with different backgrounds, abilities, and experiences come together to have fun and learn new skills. With the support of trained staff members, Girl Scouts build their confidence, develop a passion for the outdoors, and discover independence.

The SCRA is a Qualified Sponsoring Organization (QSO) that holds the license for the Isle Hotel Casino Bettendorf. Available grant funds are from gaming receipts provided by the casino per Iowa Code 99F.
