Sack lunches support Safer Foundation

Safer Foundation

Time is running out to order a Safer Sacks lunch and support the work of Safer Foundation.

In recognition of National Second Chance Month, Safer will hold its 18th annual Safer Sacks fundraiser on Thursday, April 20.

Deadline to order a lunch to pick up or be delivered is Friday, April 13. To participate and order a Safer Sack, visit here.

“Last year we sold more than 1,700 lunches to area businesses, organizations and individuals,” said Safer Director Erica Lee. “This year we have set a goal of selling 2,000, which will take us back to pre-COVID numbers.”

She added that 100% of the proceeds stay in the Quad Cities to help the Davenport-based Safer provide supportive services to its clients, whose arrest and conviction records create barriers for their re-entry into the community. Proceeds support Safer’s Youth Empowerment Program, I-MATTER Young Adult Partnership, Employment Services and Achieving Change Together programs.

Each lunch sack consists of a ham/turkey/cheese croissantwich, chips, cookies and fruit. Lunches can be picked up Thursday, April 20, between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Deliveries in the Quad Cities are available for orders of six or more lunches.

While lunch supplies have increased dramatically in cost, Safer is holding the lunch prices at last year’s level. Cost is $7 per sack lunch; $8 if it is delivered.

For more information, orders can be placed through SaferSacks@SaferFoundation.org

The fundraiser comes amid National Second Chance Month, held in April, which recognizes the importance of helping individuals, communities and agencies across the country appreciate their role in supporting the safe and successful reentry of millions of people returning from incarceration each year.

According to Safer, more than 640,000 people are released nationwide from state and federal prisons each year. More than 70 million Americans have a criminal record that creates significant barriers to employment, economic stability and successful reentry into society.
