Rock Valley Physical Therapy celebrated yet another expansion on Tuesday, April 9, when leaders cut the ribbon on the group’s first Rock Valley Kids Clinic at 1008 W. 35th St., Davenport.

The new clinic was introduced by RVPT to “fill a void and to better the lives of young people in the Quad Cities and surrounding areas,” the growing physical therapy provider said in a news release.

Therapists and staff celebrate after the ribbon cutting Tuesday, April 9, for the new Rock Valley Kids Clinic at 1008 W. 35th St., Davenport.

“Just over a year ago this location was an idea,’’ said Maggie Bohnert, manager of the new Rock Valley Kids Clinic. A Quad Cities resident, Ms. Bohnert earned her undergraduate and her Masters of Occupational Therapy degrees from St. Ambrose University in Davenport.

She joined the group in September 2019 and has been instrumental in helping Rock Valley’s Rehab team in Muscatine, Iowa, build a comprehensive pediatric program to serve its surrounding communities, the release said.

“It was a passion project that would not have been made possible without the people who are standing around me today,’’ Ms. Bohnert added. “This is a night to celebrate what we can do when we work together to make better lives.”

Rock Valley Kids’ Clinic specializes in infant and child development by offering an  interdisciplinary clinical approach to pediatric therapies, physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy, the group says.

The demand for the clinic was apparent. “It was our co-workers coming to us time and time again, saying there is a need for something of this nature in the Quad Cities,’’ said Rock Valley Physical Therapy CEO Mike Horsfield in the release. “And each time we didn’t act, they came back and persisted, making sure we realized there was a need. This is a testament to that group.’’

Pediatric occupational therapy, Ms. Bohnert said, is designed to help children meet their developmental goals through daily occupations. The primary occupations or jobs of infants, toddlers, and young children are playing, learning, and interacting with caregivers and, eventually, their peers.

“Thank you for supporting us in making our passion a reality,’’ she said at Tuesday’s event.

Rock Valley Kids is one of 61 locations across Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska operated by Rock Valley Physical Therapy. Founded in 1984, Rock Valley Physical Therapy has expanded to become one of the largest therapist-led, private physical therapy practices in the country.

Leaders of the family of clinics said in a release that Rock Valley expects the kids’ clinic — which opened on a limited basis this month — to set “the bar high” for pediatric care in the region.
