Time is running out to get in your lunch order for Safer Foundation Quad Cities’ 19th annual Safer Sacks fundraiser.

The bag lunch fundraiser, which the organization said has become a community favorite and its most successful fundraiser, will be Thursday, April 18. Pre-ordered lunches can be picked up that day between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Deliveries in the Quad Cities are available for orders of six or more lunches. Safer will continue to take orders until Friday, April 12, and event sponsorships remain available. For more information or to place and order, visit SaferSacks@SaferFoundation.org

Erica Lee, Safer Quad Cities senior director, said last year the organization sold just under 2,000 lunches to area businesses, organizations and individuals. “This year we have set a goal of selling 2,100, which will take us back to pre-COVID numbers,” she said in a news release.

Each year, Safer Foundation staff and board members, Quad Cities mayors, individuals served by the Safer program, public partners, employers and volunteers come together to assemble, promote, and sell Safer Sacks. Each lunch consists of a ham/turkey/cheese croissantwich, chips, cookies and fruit.

Proceeds support Safer’s Youth Empowerment Program, Employment Services, I-MATTER Young Adult Partnership wrap-up and Safer QC’s newest Department of Labor-funded program, Pathway Home.

Ms. Lee added: “100% of money raised will stay in the Quad Cities, allowing us to provide supportive services to individuals on the road to a better future.”

The fundraiser is held in April, which is observed as National Second Chance Month, a month dedicated to recognizing the importance of helping individuals, communities, and agencies across the country appreciate their role in supporting the safe and successful reentry of millions of people returning from incarceration each year.

Safer Foundation has three locations in the Quad Cities including two in Davenport and one in Moline. It serves between 400 and 500 individuals annually. The organization provides services designed exclusively for people with criminal records. Its vision is equal employment opportunities for people impacted by the criminal legal system thereby improving the socio-economic well-being of the individual, their family, and the community.
