Donate household supplies and personal care items to help Quad Citians in need through Rock Island Public Library’s Community Comforts Drive through March 1.
The library has spent the “month of love” gathering items to benefit two Rock Island organizations – Heart of Hope Ministries and the Rocky Resource Room.
To help the cause, bring necessary items to the bright pink donation boxes at the Rock Island Downtown Library (401 19th St.), Rock Island Southwest Library (9010 Ridgewood Road), or the Watts-Midtown Branch (2715 30th St.).
“Access to non-food personal care, cleaning supplies, hygiene items and basic household supplies isn’t always easy or affordable for some community residents,” the library said in a news release. “To help, the library has partnered with the Heart of Hope Outreach Center and the Rocky Resource Room at Rock Island High School to take donations of these necessary items.”
The library is asking for a variety of new items for the drive, including hair products, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant or antiperspirant, soap and body wash, toilet paper, lotion, razors, toothpaste, socks and undergarments, laundry detergent, diapers, dental care items, sanitizing wipes, hygiene products, paper products, household cleaning products and more.
“Basically, it’s anything you’d buy for your own home,” RIPL Reference and Adult Services Director Karrah Kuykendall said in the release. “We collected nearly 500 items last year, and that generosity brought a little comfort to people struggling with basic needs. We’re always impressed by our community’s caring and capacity to help others.”
Heart of Hope Ministries operates a community outreach office at 1740 Ninth Ave., which offers a drop-in food pantry and weekly homebound delivery option. For more information, call (309) 428-4752.
The high school’s Rocky Resource Room provides a discreet, no-judgment way for high school, junior high and elementary school students and families to pick up food, clothing, personal care supplies and hygiene items.
