QCBJ kicks off event series in April

Come hear nine Quad Cities top leaders share their best 10 ideas as the Quad Cities Regional Business Journal hosts its first 90 Ideas in 90 Minutes in April.

The event will feature a slate of area business and community leaders sharing their 10 best ideas in a TED Talk-like format. It will be the inaugural event in what will become a series of ongoing QCBJ business events. It will be from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at the Adler Theatre in downtown Davenport. Tickets are $43 each.

“We’re excited to bring informational, networking and recognition award events to the Quad Cities similar to what we have done in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Corridor,” said John Lohman, group publisher and CEO of the Corridor Media Group.

The 90 Ideas lineup includes:

Steven Bahls, president, Augustana College

Denise Bulat, executive director, Bi-State Regional Commission

Ben Leischner, executive director, Quad Cities International Airport

Kenny Massey, CEO, Modern Woodmen of America

Randy Moore, president, Iowa American Water

Maria Ontiveros, corporate community liaison, Group O; and president/co-founder, Mercado on Fifth

Jim Thomson, chairman, LandJet

Katie Wilson, founder and CEO, TapOnIt, LLC

LaDrina Wilson, CEO, Iman Consulting, LLC

At 90 Ideas, each speaker will be given five minutes to discuss his or her 10 best ideas or best practices. All attendees will receive those 90 ideas published in an exclusive print publication.

Mr. Lohman said the event will kick off five QCBJ events planned this year in the Quad Cities. The QCBJ, which is published by Corridor Media Group in North Liberty, is a sister publication to the Corridor Business Journal (CBJ).

“Hosting informative and engaging business and networking events like 90 Ideas in 90 Minutes are part of the business journal business model,” Mr. Lohman said.

Other events planned in the Quad Cities market include: Mid-Year Economic Review, Wednesday, June 15; Fastest Growing Companies, Tuesday, Aug. 9; and Forty Under 40, Thursday, Nov. 10.

In the Corridor, the CBJ — now in its 18th year — hosts as many as 15 events a year. Its largest event is its Economic Forecast held each January, which can attract 600-700 business leaders in a non-pandemic year. Mr. Lohman said the QCBJ will not offer that event locally because that already is a popular, well-attended event hosted by the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce. In fact, the QCBJ was a major sponsor of the chamber’s 2022 forecast event.

The QCBJ’s 90 Ideas event is sponsored by IMEG, Quad Cities International Airport and the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI).
