QC Rehabilitation Institute begins hiring new workforce

As crews continue advancing the construction of a new Quad Cities Rehabilitation Institute in Moline, efforts are underway to recruit 140 new positions to staff the hospital.

The 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital is being built at the intersection of 52nd Avenue and 7th Street on UnityPoint Health – Trinity’s Moline campus. The new facility is a joint venture of UnityPoint Health Trinity and Birmingham, Alabama-based Encompass Health.

When the new facility is operational, UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island’s existing 22-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit will be consolidated into the new hospital.

To recruit the dozens of health care professionals and related staff needed to operate the facility, the new employer is holding a hiring event from noon-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at the new building at 653 52nd Ave., Moline.

The hospital is seeking applicants for these positions: registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nursing assistants, therapy assistants, case managers, cooks, environmental services technicians/housekeeping, and more. Staff will conduct on-the-spot interviews with job-seekers. Dress is business casual, and scrubs are welcome.

The hospital, first announced in January 2021, is expected to open Tuesday, Aug. 23, and begin serving patients soon after.

It will provide inpatient rehabilitation services and higher medical management for patients recovering from stroke and other neurological disorders, hip fractures, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations, complex orthopedic conditions and more. Patients will receive a minimum of three hours per day of therapy for five days each week as well as 24-hour RN nursing care and be visited by an attending physician during their stay.

The new facility’s amenities include 40 private patient rooms, a spacious therapy gym with advanced rehab technologies, an activities of daily living suite, therapy courtyard, dialysis suite, dining room, in-house pharmacy and dayroom.

The project took a step forward in June 2020 when the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved its certification of need. The two partners announced plans in January 2021.

“Through this new hospital and our joint venture with UnityPoint Health – Trinity, we look forward to providing even more access to high-quality care for Quad Cities area resident in need of rehabilitative services,” Barb Jacobsmeyer, executive vice president and president of inpatient hospitals for Encompass Health, said at the time in announcing the joint venture. “By leveraging the strengths of both organizations, we will help patients regain their independence through our coordinated and connected care.”

In the news release issued in January 2021, UnityPoint Health – Trinity President and CEO Robert Erickson said “Our goals are to enhance acute rehabilitative care in the Quad Cities, increase access to high-quality inpatient rehabilitation services, and keep patients close to home and family.”

According to Danielle Hall, Encompass Health’s senior manager, public relations, a total of 70 employees have already been hired and the hospital will employ 140+ staff. The new position will pay market competitive wages.

The leadership team is made up of local healthcare leaders with many years of experience in the community. The medical staff will be comprised of physicians experienced in physical medicine and rehabilitation as well as other specialties such as internal medicine, cardiology, infectious disease and nephrology.

Encompass is ranked as one of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For and Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work.
