The Quad Cities region was ranked No. 6 for the total number of large-scale economic investment projects on the Mississippi River Corridor, according to Site Selection Magazine.

Site Selection Magazine, an economic development publication, annually ranks metropolitan and micropolitan areas by number of projects per capita and by total number of projects, according to a news release. With a total of 24 projects, the 2022 Governor’s Cup Awards ranked the Quad Cities behind only larger metro areas such as St. Louis, Missouri; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; New Orleans; and Memphis, Tennessee, the release states.

“The continued acknowledgement of economic growth in our region pushes us to the forefront of competing communities in terms of corporate investments, talent and jobs,” said Tami Petsche, vice president of business and economic growth for the Quad Cities Chamber, in a news release.

“This achievement brings awareness of the Quad Cities to companies and site location consultants across the country, presenting our region as a premier place to do business.”

Three other local communities were also named top micropolitan areas by number of large-scale economic investment projects, including Muscatine (5), Galesburg, Illinois, (2) and Clinton (2), the release states.

Statewide, Illinois was ranked No. 2 for its total number of large-scale investments, and No. 4 in projects per capita, according to the release. Iowa was ranked No. 9 for its number of large-scale investments per capita.

Awards are based on growth in manufacturing, call centers, headquarters, data centers, distribution warehouse, office, and research and development, the release states. To qualify toward the total count, projects must involve an investment of at least $1 million, create 20 or more new jobs or include 20,000 square feet of new construction.
