Pre-order flowers now, support Big Brothers Big Sisters

Spring has sprung and that means the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley’s (BBBSMV) Plant Sale is just around the corner.

The Quad Cities youth mentoring organization will hold its 32nd annual sale in May, but it is accepting pre-orders now.

“We want our supporters to know that their pre-order of flowers will help support the organization and the families we serve,” Jay Justin, the organization’s CEO, said in a news release.

Proceeds from all sales help children facing diversity by supporting the one-to-one, youth mentoring provided through BBBSMV.

“During the past couple of years, the COVID pandemic has had a negative impact on the number of children we serve, due to the number of Bigs we have not been able to recruit,” Mr. Justin said. “Proceeds from Plant Sale will help support our volunteer recruitment efforts during the upcoming year, so we can meet the need of serving children who are waiting to be matched.”

Customers are encouraged to pre-order their plants by April 18 at www.plantsale.org. The website includes a catalog and planting recommendations as well as information about volunteering for the sales event. Customers also can download an order form from the website to mail it in with a payment.

All pre-orders are eligible for a special drawing for a $500 Heritage Helping Hands gift certificate from Heritage Landscape Design.

“Pre-ordering helps people secure the flower variety, color and quantities they need for their project,” said Kayla Kiesey, BBBSMV events director. “It’s difficult to plan a project and not be sure you can get all the plants and annual flowers you need to fulfill your plans.”

The retail Plant Sale will be open from Friday-Sunday, May 6-8, at the Northwest Bank & Trust Tower at East Kimberly Road and Welcome Way in Davenport. In addition, BBBSMV is offering free delivery on Wednesday and Thursday, May 4-5, for all pre-orders of $75 or more placed by April 18. Customers also can pick up their own plants those days at the bank tower.

“Many companies and organizations will gather individual orders together to create a group order which can then be delivered to a specified location,” Ms. Kiesey said. Group orders also can be picked up May 4-5 at Northwest Bank.

Group order coordinators should contact Sierra at sroberts@bbbs-mv.org or call (563) 323-8006. Group orders must be submitted with individual payments to BBBS by April 15. If ordering online, state the name of your group or company.

The event this year is sponsored by Iowa American Water, Mel Foster Co. and Solutions Management Group.

BBBSMV supports one-to-one relationships to ignite the biggest possible futures for Quad Cities youth. In existence in the Quad Cities for nearly 34 years, it has served about 12,000 children.
