A new Pet Supplies Plus store will open at 3280 Middle Road in Bettendorf. The locally owned pet food and supply store will open its doors on Friday, May 24.
The store will offer supplies and amenities such as grooming, self-pet wash stations, a knowledgeable pet care team, delivery and carry-out service in which team members carry heavy items to neighbors’ cars.
The store is owned by Tom Bernau of Bernau Capital Group and is operated by Iowa native Suzy Schweer, who previously owned other local pet stores. Originally from the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area, she opened her first Pet Supplies Plus in 2016 in her hometown. Since then, Ms. Schweer has grown her Pet Supplies Plus stores across Iowa, reaching from Des Moines to the newest location in Bettendorf. As a community partner, Ms. Schweer will team up with local animal shelters, rescue organizations, and nonprofits to host year-round adoption events, fundraisers, and pet food and product drives.
“I am excited to bring a fantastic community-based pet store to Bettendorf,” said Ms. Schweer. “We absolutely love being a part of the Quad Cities community already with our store in Davenport, our ultimate goal is to have locations for all of our Iowa neighbors to have access to great pet care across the state.”
To welcome the community, she will host a weekend-long grand opening event. Beginning Saturday, June 8, and continuing through Sunday, June 9, the new Pet Supplies Plus will offer special prize giveaways, fun games, sale prices and more. The primary giveaways will include:
- Saturday, June 8, to Sunday, June 9: Pet owners have a shot at winning a complimentary, one-year supply of Redford Natural’s dry dog or dry cat food. Vote for your favorite rescue so they can win a cash prize.
- Pet Supplies Plus Bettendorf will give out coupons offering complimentary nail trims and pet washes for pets on June 8. There will be cotton candy, popcorn, games and prizes all weekend.
- Saturday, June 8: $5-$10 Mystery scratch cards will be given to neighbors throughout the day. They also are urged to come eat cookies and let their furry friends bob for hot dogs.
- Sunday, June 9: The first 100 visitors who enter the store will receive a coupon for a free, small bag of dog or cat food – valid on any brand within the store. Also offered will be tattoos, face painting, games, and hourly events.
