The NormaLeah Ovarian Cancer Initiative will host a “Chalk the Walk” event from 2-7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 13, at the pond in front of the Shive-Hattery/Geifman First Equity at 2144 and 2172 56th Ave W., in Bettendorf.
The nonprofit then will hold a gynecologic cancer awareness walk around the quarter-mile pond there at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.
This free family-friendly Chalk the Walk activity – where guests can write messages of hope, encouragement, and love to honor someone’s cancer journey – is part of the inaugural NormaLeah Making Strides Together: Gynecologic Cancer Awareness event. It is being held in what is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
Retired KWQC anchor Paula Sands is the honorary chair of the activities that aim to spread awareness, create hope, honor lives lost, and celebrate survivors of all gynecologic cancers during National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
The event is sponsored by Eisai Co., Inc, Massage Envy, B100, KWQC-TV6, Big Rig Truck & Trailer, Ameriprise Financial, Winstein, Kavensky & Cunningham, Hawkeye Commercial Real Estate, and Paula and David Sands.
In addition to Chalk the Walk, there will be other activities, including a survivor recognition event and a tribute trail. To participate or honor someone you love with a donation, register here.
