Shubhangi Garg loved what she was seeing at the new Necker’s Jewelers store in Davenport. There were rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and much more.

“It’s almost Father’s Day. Maybe I should be looking for a watch…, the Bettendorf woman said as she looked around the new retail store during a special day for the business. “Jewelry is an investment, in my opinion. You want to do business with someone you can trust.”

The Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday afternoon, April 12, for Necker’s Jewelers’ new building at 4009 E. 53rd St., Davenport. The ceremony, which attracted 40 business and community leaders, helped welcome the business to its new home, which is located next door to its former store at 7009 E. 53rd St. The longtime jeweler was at the previous Davenport storefront for more than 20 years before moving to the new building in February.

“We’ve had an overwhelming and positive response to our new building,” said Dave Necker, one of the owners of Necker’s Jewelers, which also has a location at 721 Sixth Ave., DeWitt, Iowa. “Customers really like the outside design of this new building.”

He added that Necker’s needed a new and bigger location to accommodate its growth and better serve its customers.

Mr. Necker, along with his brother and business co-owner D.J. Necker, welcomed chamber members and other visitors to look over the new store during the ceremony Friday.

Some of the store’s features include:

  • The store has 8,200 square feet, which is double the size of its former location and four times the size of an average jewelry store.
  • Store features include private consultation rooms, a gathering area and an entertaining space with a fully stocked bar.
  • The new business building also features two large TV screens. During the business celebration, one of those screens was showing scenes from Necker’s long history. The screen was showing old photos of former Necker’s employees, customers, merchandise and store sites. That history goes back to 1952 when Don and Dorothy Necker bought Brumer’s Jewelry in DeWitt. (Brumer’s Jewelry traces its history back to 1893.)
  • Today, the business has about 25 employees.

“This is such an eye-appealing, wonderful place. … It just makes the area shine,” Davenport Mayor Mike Matson said during Friday’s welcoming ceremonies in the store.

One of the store’s features that makes it really shine is its size, according to company leaders.

“We have grown exponentially with a need to expand in order to house our ever-growing jewelry business that is in the top 1% of independent jewelers nationwide. … Being four times the size of an average jewelry store, this allows us to have a larger bridal center, private consultation rooms, new designer brands, a gathering area and an entertaining space with a fully stocked bar featuring some of the best spirits and wines from around the world. … Necker’s provides customers with an unforgettable experience and provides the Quad Cities with a unique jewelry selection typically found in larger metropolitan areas.,” according to information from Necker’s Jewelers.

Necker’s offers a wide range of merchandise, including rings, earrings, watches, pendants and much more. It also offers services, such as jewelry repairs, appraisals and custom designs. Necker’s phone number is (563) 359-3941.
