The Bettendorf Business Network will be awarding two $2,500 scholarships to help individuals further their education while honoring the memory of two longtime community leaders.
The BBN created the one-time scholarship program in memory of Dale Owen and Larry Makoben, who were leaders in the Bettendorf business community.
Mr. Owen led Ascentra Credit Union as its president and CEO until his death in November 2020. Mr. Makoben, who died Jan. 17, was a banker who retired from IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union. Each spent countless hours as volunteers in the Quad Cities and supported multiple organizations and their activities.
The scholarships were made possible by a grant from Ascentra Credit Union to the BBN as part of Ascentra’s “Be The Light” park dedication during the summer of 2023.
To be considered for one of the two $2,500 scholarships, the applicant must be:
- An employee or family member of a Bettendorf Business Network member.;
- A high school senior or non-traditional student planning on entering an accredited post high school undergraduate, graduate or vocational program.
- Planning to attend a post high school program starting no later than Dec. 31, 2024.
