N.C. structural engineer Lynch Mykins joins IMEG

Lynch Mykins, a nationally recognized structural engineering and special inspections firm, has joined IMEG, the Rock Island-based engineering design firm announced Monday, May 12.

In a news release, IMEG said the acquisition strengthens its technical capabilities and expands its presence across North Carolina and the broader Southeast region. Details of the financial transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 1974, the award-winning Lynch Mykins is headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, with additional offices there in Charlotte and Greensboro as well as in Norfolk, Virginia.

The addition of its 50-member staff brings IMEG’s growing footprint to 3,000+ across its 100 offices.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Lynch Mykins team to IMEG,” Paul VanDuyne, IMEG president and CEO, said in the release. “Their structural expertise and reputation for quality work align perfectly with our values and strategic vision. This addition enhances our technical depth and supports continued growth in North Carolina and the Southeast – a region rich with opportunity and talent.”

Lynch Mykins offers a full spectrum of structural services including forensic engineering, peer reviews, sustainable design, and special inspections. It serves clients across a wide range of markets including commercial, corporate, healthcare, education, historic preservation, federal, housing, religious, and sports and recreation.

Scott Francis, who has been Lynch Mykins’ vice president of operations, now will serve as the client executive. In that role, he will lead regional operations and collaborate closely with existing leaders and team members from both Lynch Mykins and IMEG.

“This is an exciting new chapter for Lynch Mykins, and most importantly, for our clients and employees,” Anna Lynch, CEO of Lynch Mykins, said in the release. “IMEG brings the resources and experience of a national firm, but like us, they believe in market-level expertise and strong client relationships.”

“That means our clients will now have access to a broader range of engineering services, deeper technical resources, and a team that can take on even more complex and high-profile projects – without losing the personalized attention they value,” Ms. Lynch added.

The Lynch Mykins acquisition is IMEG’s latest expansion into North Carolina and the southeast. In October 2024, IMEG acquired Atlantec Engineers, also located in Raleigh. The firm provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design and services, as well as energy modeling. Earlier in May of 2022, IMEG acquired McVeigh & Mangum Engineering, Inc., a mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and structural design services firm with offices in Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida.

IMEG, headquartered in the Quad Cities, is ranked among the top engineering firms in the U.S. (No. 3 on BD+C’s top Engineering Firms and No. 48 on ENR’s Top 500 Design Firms).
