Muscatine Chamber leader is leaving

The leader of the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GMCCI) is leaving to take a different post.

Erik Reader, president and CEO of the GMCCI for the past two years, is departing to accept a role in Peoria, Illinois. He is stepping down effective Feb. 28.

“I’ve enjoyed Muscatine and believe that we’ve accomplished quite a bit in a short amount of time,” Mr. Reader said in a news release. “It’s no doubt been challenging given the ongoing conditions caused from COVID-19 only three months after I started. An opportunity to be closer to family fell into place and it was the right time to leave things in a really good place.”

Mr. Reader started his leadership role with the GMCCI on Dec. 16, 2019. He has not announced details on his new role in Peoria, but added that he is proud of the work done in Muscatine.

“With our current team in place, we have offered an immense member value and added so many new initiatives, events, and programs,” he added. “I hear from numerous people saying that this is the most activity they’ve seen in town for years and love the direction things are heading. To do that after a year where nearly everything had been canceled or postponed is a tremendous accomplishment and a testament to the hard work of our staff.”

The chamber board will conduct a search for Mr. Reader’s replacement. More information will be found on the GMCCI website the days to come.
