Riverside Family Aquatic Center in Moline has a new name: Riverside Riverslide.

The name change was announced Thursday, Nov. 30, by the Moline Parks and Recreation Department. The name change was made in conjunction with the ongoing $6.8 million in upgrades and improvements to the public swimming pool at 3300 5th Ave., Moline.

Moline Parks and Recreation announced the facility enhancements in February and held a ground-breaking ceremony in April. As of Thursday, the construction is still on schedule for a reopening date of May 2024.

The pool upgrade project includes three new water slides, a lazy river, splash pad, new shade structures, updated concessions, nighttime lights, a shared park shelter and family restrooms.

“I hope this place brings back many fond memories. … But this plan is a bold vision,” said Moline Mayor Sangeetha Rayapati during groundbreaking ceremonies at the facility this spring.

The partnership between Moline Parks and Recreation and Two Rivers YMCA will continue when the new facility opens in 2024. Two Rivers YMCA members will have full access to the improved Riverside Riverslide as part of their membership, with no additional cost.
