A new Fareway Grocery store in LeClaire is expected to open in late August at 1301 Eagle Ridge Road.

The store will open on Aug. 30, according to a post on the City of LeClaire Facebook page. An official with Fareway stores confirms the new store is expected to open by the end of August, but adds that a firm opening day has not been set yet.

“At this time, our team is working on interior finishing touches and we plan to be open by the end of August,” said Emily Toribio, director of corporate outreach and communications with Fareway, in an email to the QCBJ.

However, as of Monday morning, July 10, Fareway’s website also states the new store will open on Aug. 30. The location is listed as store 237 by Fareway.

Fareway also is advertising for open positions at the soon-to-open LeClaire store. A page on the company website lists several openings including bakery clerk, grocery clerk and market clerk for the new store. That page also includes information on applying for the jobs.

A City of LeClaire Facebook post from Sunday, July 9, adds that another store – Studio K LeClaire – will soon open next to the new Fareway store. Studio K LeClaire offers furniture, rugs and more at discounted prices.

“Mark your calendars for the grand opening of Studio K LeClaire on Wednesday, July 12, at 10 a.m. Their new location is 1297 Eagle Ridge Road, right between the new Fareway (that opens August 30) and Breakfast at Berries,” according to the Facebook post.

A few days ago, it appeared work continued to move forward on converting the former Slagle Foods store at 1301 Eagle Ridge Road into the new grocery store. Workers were busy moving materials into the store last week.

When the Fareway project was announced last year, these details were released on the store:

  • The project is a more than $4 million investment.
  • The new store will employ about 60 workers including about 15 full-time employees.
  • The grocery will occupy just over 18,000 square feet of the retail space.
  • It will include a full-service bakery and meat market. Also, the location will offer FastLanes – a self-service checkout option, as well as online shopping and curbside pick-up, available through Shop.Fareway.com.
  • The city described the project as a “full remodel and reconstruction of grocery space.”
  • The current taxable value of the property at 1301 Eagle Ridge Road is about $1.28 million.
