DES MOINES, Iowa — Landus, Iowa’s largest farmer-owned cooperative, announced Thursday, June 26, that it is launching a nationwide search for its next chief executive officer.
The cooperative, whose $3 billion business touches 34 states and 16 countries, has spent the past few months gathering feedback to shape their search for the next leader. In a news release, Landus said that interim CEO Sam Caton and the Landus Board of Directors have been meeting with farmer-owners and employees since April to discuss the ideal qualities they want in their new CEO.
“Landus is at an important turning point,” Matt Chambers, board chairman, said in the release. “Sam’s leadership has given us a strong foundation to navigate this challenging transition and move forward with confidence. While our search for a CEO is nationwide, one thing is non-negotiable — the core of our business is here in Iowa, and the success of Landus’ farmers must be at the heart of cooperative decisions.”
The cooperative said it is seeking a forward-thinking, proven leader who understands the key role cooperatives play in supporting Iowa farms and rural communities. According to the release, the individual must earn the trust of stakeholders and confidently guide the cooperative through the evolving agricultural economy.
The board has hired Medallion Partners, a national executive search firm, to lead the
confidential process. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Medallion at
The search comes on the heels of Landus’ heavy investment in its infrastructure and technology to help farmers manage risk and grow more efficiently. The next CEO will need to build on this progress while staying grounded in its long-standing values, the release said.
During the search, Mr. Caton will continue to serve as interim CEO.
