The Labor Day holiday will again be a time for parades in the Quad Cities.

The 40th annual Rock Island Labor Day Parade will start at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2. The 41st annual Labor Day Parade in East Moline starts at 11 a.m. on Monday.

Here’s a looks at the parade routes:

  • East Moline: The parade will leave the John Deere Harvester Works parking lot. It will travel over to 15th Avenue and head to Third Street and across the train tracks, where the parade will end. This year, the grand marshal will be Sheri Carnahan, retired AFSCME Council 61, Local 3011 member. She worked for the Iowa Workforce Development Center for 31 years.
  • Rock Island: The parade travels west along 18th Avenue, turns south at 24th Street, then west on 25th Avenue and disbands into the Rock Island High School parking lots. The route is two miles long and takes 90 minutes to march. Art Milton has been selected to serve as grand marshal. He is one of the original organizers of the parade since its creation in 1984 and has actively served on the Labor Day Parade Committee every year.

Both parades are expected to have union organizations, high school marching bands, elected officials, social service organizations or clubs and entertainment businesses from around the Quad Cities.
