IowaWORKS will showcase its new Youth Resource Room during a young adult job fair on Tuesday, April 19.

The Young Adult Job Fair will be from 4-6 p.m. at IowaWORKS’ Davenport office at 1801A E. Kimberly Road.

The Youth Resource Room offers a gathering space for young people, ages 14 to 24, to come get assistance with their homework or their job search. They also can access the online workshops that IowaWORKS offers.

“The open area offers resources to students that may not have them at home,” said Robert Hummel, a career navigator. “We invite youth to use it for homework, job seeking, a social environment, and to speak with our youth career navigators. The hope is to offer not only resources, but the support from staff to help these young adults succeed.”

The room features a couch, a social gathering table, computer stations, printers, a copier, whiteboard, television and a conference table.

The Young Adult Job Fair will have more than 20 employers on hand to discuss youth summer employment opportunities such as jobs at local park programs, retailers, youth sports and more. Community resource organizations also will be on hand to provide information on support programs in the area. Staff will lead tours of the job center.

IowaWORKS provides daily services to the general public that include resume building, job seeking assistance, computer access, workshops to prepare job seekers for employment, connections to community resources, assistance with navigating unemployment insurance and more. The job center is open daily from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. (Wednesday opens at 9 a.m.)
