IowaWORKS to host registered apprenticeship event

Disability webinars

In observance of National Apprenticeship Week (Nov. 17-23), IowaWORKS in Davenport, will host a Registered Apprenticeship Hiring Event from 9-11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at its 1801 E. Kimberly Road center.

The local IowaWORKS event is in conjunction with the national celebrations taking place across the country highlighting the benefits of having registered apprenticeship programs in the workplace. The theme of National Apprenticeship Week 2024 is “10 Years of Engagement, Expansion and Innovation.”

A Registered Apprenticeship (RA) Program is a rewarding option for both a business and a future employee. The industry-driven and high-quality pathway combines on-the-job learning with related training instruction that results in an earned nationally recognized credential upon completion. RA programs reduce turnover costs and increase employee retention. About 93% of employees who complete a RA Program remain employed after its completion.

An RA Program allows an apprentice to receive a paycheck from day one, and their wages increase as they continue learning the necessary skills through on-the-job learning by an experienced mentor. Related training instruction can be delivered through traditional classroom, online, self-study, or in-house training options.

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently recognized Iowa as a State Apprenticeship Agency (SAA), meaning that the Office of Apprenticeship (IOA) now oversees and administers RA programs throughout the state.

To learn about events in your area or for information on how your business can benefit from an RA Program, visit apprenticeship.iowa.gov or call the IOA at (515) 725-3675. For information on careers and hiring opportunities, call (563) 445-3200 Option 2.
