IMEG’s new acquisitions to expand its defense work

IMEG Corp.’s year-end acquisitions of the Schmidt Consulting Group, Inc., and Bruce E. Brooks & Associates wrap up a 12-month period in which the Rock Island-based engineering design firm added eight firms and 17 new office locations.

In a news release issued Tuesday, Jan. 3, IMEG said its latest two acquisitions will expand its Department of Defense (DoD) work across the country as well as its service portfolio in Philadelphia, respectively.

The Schmidt Consulting Group deal brings an additional 20 employees into IMEG’s fold, while the Bruce E. Brooks & Associates (BBA) deal adds 23 employees. In all, IMEG now employs 2,100 team members across 75 locations.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Schmidt Consulting Group and Bruce E. Brooks & Associates into our company,” IMEG President/CEO Paul VanDuyne said in the release. “Both firms have built solid reputations for providing high-quality design and are – like the rest of IMEG – community- and client-centric.”

Founded in 1987, Schmidt Consulting Group of Pensacola, Florida, provides mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering design and services for the DoD across the United States and for other market sectors throughout the greater Pensacola and Gulf Coast region

“Their knowledge of the Department of Defense and quality-driven design match perfectly with IMEG’s priorities,” Mr. VanDuyne added.

Schmidt Consulting Group President Gene Schmidt said his firm is excited to join IMEG. “The merger provides stability and growth for all our employees as well as our clients and teaming partners,” he said in a release.

Mr. Schmidt will continue as client executive with IMEG, overseeing current regional operations and a niche DoD-focused team with existing Schmidt Consulting leadership.

Based in Philadelphia, Bruce E. Brooks & Associates was founded in 1980 and provides sustainable design services on a wide variety of projects in the commercial, cultural, education, historical, and housing markets.

BBA Principal Brad Randall said the firm is looking forward to the ability to offer clients a full line of engineering services – all with the same local team. He also will serve as a client executive with IMEG.

The two firms are doing business, respectively, as Schmidt Consulting Group, Inc., now IMEG, and Bruce E. Brooks & Associates, now IMEG. Both will continue to operate out of their existing locations.

According to IMEG, it has an expansive history of DoD work, providing engineering design and services for facilities belonging to the various military branches including military hospitals (i.e., the Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton, Walter Reed National Medical Center); Army National Guard facilities (Joint Forces Readiness Center (JFRC) complex in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Readiness Center and Army Aviation Support Facility in Kankakee, Illinois; and various projects across the country for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

IMEG, headquartered in Rock Island, is a Top 5, 100% employee-owned engineering firm in the U.S. (BD+C) and ranked No. 71 on ENR’s (Engineering News Records’) Top 500 Design Firms list.
