IMEG Corp. acquires structural engineering firm in Philadelphia

Quad Cities-based IMEG Corp. has acquired The Harman Group, a Philadelphia-area structural engineering firm marking what is its fourth acquisition since late December.

IMEG, headquartered in Rock Island, said on Tuesday, March 1, the acquisition will expand its structural group to more than 300 team members.

Founded in 1984, The Harman Group has offered structural services, along with parking planning and design, for more than 37 years. The company provides innovative work on a wide variety of projects in the healthcare, education, hospitality, residential, government, and gaming markets.

“We are excited to add The Harman Group and deepen our bench of expertise,” IMEG

President/CEO Paul VanDuyne said in a news release. “Their strong and diverse client base is a testament to their creative, technical skills and customer-based focus – two vital characteristics that match IMEG’s own priorities.”

The Harman Group’s founder, President and Managing Principal Kirk Harman, said his firm is excited to become part of IMEG and help drive continued growth in the greater Philadelphia and East Coast region. Mr. Harman will continue as client executive with IMEG, overseeing regional operations.

The firm will continue to operate out of its existing King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, office, doing business as The Harman Group, now IMEG.

“We have built a reputation centered on delivering excellence and elegant structural solutions to our clients,” he said.

“This philosophy, along with our commitment to fostering an engaged employee culture, blends well with IMEG’s approach and allows us to leverage a broader base of market and technical expertise,” Mr. Harman added. “In addition, we can deliver the same high level of customer service on even larger projects and broaden our reach with the manpower and resources of IMEG behind us.”

Mr. VanDuyne added that the team’s structural capabilities complement IMEG’s full-service capabilities. The acquisition also continues IMEG’s eastward expansion.

In fact, the acquisition comes nearly two months after IMEG announced the addition of three new companies to its fold on Dec. 31, 2021. The companies, which continue operating out of their current locations, are:

  • Architectural Engineers, Inc. (AEI), a Boston-based mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and lighting design services firm.
  • C&H Engineering and Surveying, Inc., a civil, surveying, and structural engineering firm in Bozeman, Montana.
  • Sitton Energy Solutions, an Illinois-based energy management firm and leader in building performance analysis throughout the Midwest. Developers of the Facility Optimization Strategy (FOS), Sitton has been providing building optimization and analytic strategies to clients since 2007, working in a wide variety of markets.

IMEG is a leading U.S.-based engineering design firm that is 100% employee-owned and results-driven with a passion for transforming environments and communities through high-performance design and infrastructure. It boasts more than 60 offices and 1,700 team members. For more information, visit imegcorp.com or harmangroup.com.
