IMEG has announced that Optimized Systems, a highly specialized engineering and energy management consultancy, has joined the Quad Cities-based engineering firm.
The deal was finalized Tuesday, Dec. 31. It was announced on Thursday, Jan. 2, in a news release from IMEG, which is headquartered in Rock Island. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.
According to the release, the addition of the Omaha, Nebraska-based firm will enrich IMEG’s capabilities in building performance optimization and sustainability services. Optimized Systems brings a decade of experience in driving energy efficiency and fostering sustainability in diverse markets. The firm’s expertise spans education, health care, commercial, municipal/government, and nonprofit sectors.
Optimized Systems was founded in 2014. It has carved a niche as a trusted advisor in energy management – helping clients reduce energy consumption and operational costs without compromising on occupant comfort, safety, or productivity, the release said.
“This partnership deepens our commitment to sustainable design and strengthens our ability to offer integrated solutions for optimizing energy resources,” Paul VanDuyne, IMEG president & CEO, said in the release. “The blend of Optimized Systems’ energy management and building intelligence expertise with IMEG’s full-service engineering capabilities creates an unparalleled offering for our clients.”
‘Unique strengths’ added
The acquisition is one of several that IMEG completed in 2024. It brings unique strengths to the firm. They include advanced strategies in building intelligence and integration, performance optimization, and sustainability planning and design.
IMEG has long had an emphasis on sustainability and energy solutions for its clients. It said the addition of Optimized Systems not only expands IMEG’s own bench of expertise but allows the firm to expand these specialties into some new geographic locations.
“Joining IMEG represents an incredible opportunity to amplify our impact,” Optimized System President Rick Kmiecik said. He added in the release. “Together, we bring a powerful combination of innovative expertise and a shared passion for sustainable solutions that enhance building performance and improve quality of life in the communities we serve.”
Mr. Kmiecik will continue leading the existing team as client executive. The company will do business as Optimized Systems, now IMEG. It also will continue to operate from its Omaha location, leveraging expanded resources and reach to deliver even greater value to its clients, IMEG said.
The addition of Optimized Systems’ 23 employees adds to IMEG’s 100 offices and 2,800-plus team members.
IMEG prides itself on providing the comprehensive expertise of a national leader with the personal connections of a local firm. It ranked among the top U.S. engineering firms.
The latest expansion comes on the heels of IMEG rising in industry rankings across the board in 2024. Its accolades include coming at No. 52 among Engineering News-Record‘s 2024 Top 500 Design Firms. And No. 20 on ENR’s 2024 Top 100 Green Firms. That’s a move up five spots from last year on both lists. The firm also ranked No. 3 on Building Design + Construction’s 2024 Giant’s 400 Report. It was No. 12 among Consulting-Specifying Engineer’s MEP Giants 2024.
