Illowa Council Scouting America will host its 27th Annual Scouting Clays Classic on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16-17, to raise funds for camper scholarships for scouting youth.Â
The event – the Davenport-based council’s largest fundraising event of the year – will include a Friday night dinner and the 100-target Sporting Clays competition on Saturday at Bi-State Sportsman’s Club in Colona, Illinois.Â
All proceeds will help provide scholarships for youth to attend Illowa Council’s Camp Loud Thunder in rural Rock Island County. Since the event’s inception, it has raised more than $1 million to support scouting.Â
The two-day event begins with a Friday night dinner, catered by What BBQ!, at the Camden Centre in Milan. A mixer begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. The dinner event includes a silent auction and a live auction with a professional auctioneer as well as games, raffles and giveaways. During the evening program, guests will learn how scouting impacts local families.Â
On Saturday, the Sporting Clays competition will be held at Bi-State Sportsman’s Club. Each team consists of five shooters who will be challenged in a fast-paced competition. Shooters of all skill levels are welcome. Individuals also can compete.Â
There will be both a morning flight beginning at 8 a.m. and afternoon flight beginning at noon. Prizes will be awarded to top shooting teams after each session.  Â
The 2024 Scouting Clays will include a drawing for three guns, sponsored by Davenport Guns, LLC. Registered shooters also will receive a 2024 hat and event T-shirt if registered by the Early Bird deadline of Monday, July 22.Â
Registration costs for the Illowa Council event are: Individual, $200 by July 22, $225 as of July 23; five-person team, $1,000 by July 22, $1,125 as of July 23.
